South Bronx Community Charter High School

Pillar Property Management, a developer working with Charter School organizations commissioned MONICA LOPEZ ARCHITECT, LLC to design the South Bronx Community Charter School for 450 students.

The design effort focused on developing the extensive school’s program on a narrow urban site while providing a supportive and responsive learning environment where the students could advance their academic, personal and professional skills.

The narrow and tall building effect was controlled by establishing a welcoming approach to the building with the covered outdoor space and the smaller scale vestibule. The façade language, materials and colors promote the educational identity of the building and the charter school.

The building includes academic classrooms, core rooms, science, technology, music and art rooms, a 500 people MPR/Cafeteria/Auditorium and a 200-people gymnasium at the top floor.
